The Haywood Waterways Association will host its annual summer picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Rivers Edge Park, located on Thickety Road, Clyde.

The picnic is open to all members and non-members interested in the rivers and streams of Haywood County.

Food and drinks will be provided and attendees are welcome to bring something to share.

Volunteers are currently being sought for a river trash clean-up before the picnic. Those interested will meet at 10:15 a.m. on site.

The picnic is an opportunity to catch up with Haywood Waterways and its efforts to protect and improve water for all users. It’s also a great opportunity to visit Clyde’s new Rivers Edge Park. The park is bordered by the Pigeon River and contains a 1/3 mile walking trail, two playgrounds, multiple picnic shelters, horseshoe pits and a boat launch.

After the picnic, Haywood Waterways will travel to Graveyard Fields for its next watershed hike. Haywood County is a “headwaters” county and a large part of local water starts in the Graveyard Fields area. Hikers will meet at Rivers Edge Park at 2 p.m. to carpool, or meet at the Graveyard Fields parking lot shortly after 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

RSVP for the picnic and/or the watershed hike by Thursday, July 17, to Christine O’Brien at 476-4667 or christine.haywoodwaterways@gmail.com.
