Hazelwood participates in the "Farm to School" grant.
Hazelwood Elementary, along with several other Haywood County Schools, has received a grant called the Farm-to-School grant for the 2012-13 school year.
In 2001, there were six pilot Farm-to-School programs in the United States. Today, over 9,000 schools covering all 50 states participate in the Farm-to-School program. This grant provides schools funding for school gardens, local food cooking classes and demonstrations, farm field trips and the serving of local food in our own cafeteria.
Recently at Hazelwood Elementary, all third- through fifth-grade students tested different kinds of salsa.
