HCC finishes 2nd at intercollegiate woodsmen’s meet

Photo by: Donated photos. The Haywood Community College Woodsmen’s Team finished in second place at the 2016 John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet held at the Cradle of Forestry’s Forest Festival Day recently. HCC led for the majority of the day, losing by two points in the end.

The Haywood Community College Woodsmen’s Team finished in second place at the 2016 John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet, which was recently held at the Cradle of Forestry’s Forest Festival Day. HCC led for the majority of the day, losing by two points in the end.

The event hosted special guests from the International Dendrology Society led by John Palmer for which the woodsmen’s meet is named.

The John G. Palmer Woodsmen’s Meet consisted of 16 competition events. HCC students placed in 14 of the 16 events. In addition, HCC students prepared the materials, equipment, and set up for the event. Forest Festival Day brings in well over 1,000 attendees.

Sponsors for the event included HCC, Stihl Corporation, Columbia Forest Products, the HCC Foundation, the Society of American Foresters, HCC Campus Arboretum staff and the Cradle of Forestry.

— Fourth Place, Quiz Bowl: Morgan Davis, Anthony Ledbetter, Amelia MacDonald and Adam Michniak

— First Place, Dendrology: Anthony Ledbetter and Amelia MacDonald

— Fourth Place, Archery: Trevor Walker

— Second Place, Team Log Roll: Cody Bolick, Morgan Davis, Cody Patton and Trevor Walker

— Third Place,Water Boil: Cody Bolick and Trevor Walker

— First Place, Women’s Axe Throw: Morgan Davis

— Third Place, Women’s Pole Climb: Amelia MacDonald

— First Place, Men’s Pole Climb: David Glenn

— Fourth Place, Men’s Pole Climb: Sean Bogin

— Second Place, Men’s Stock Chainsaw: Phillip Blalock

— Fourth Place, Double-Buck, Cross-Cut: Phillip Blalock and David Glenn

— Fourth Place, Women’s Bolt Split: Amelia MacDonald

— First Place, Men’s Bolt Split: Sean Bogin

— First Place, Women’s Underhand Speed Chop: Morgan Davis
