The Adult Education Department at Haywood Community College is offering free GED classes at the Canton Community Kitchen. The class is open to individuals who would like to complete a GED. The class is free and study materials are provided to the students. Adult Education Instructor, Sam Edwards, is teaching students Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from noon until 3 p.m.

Reverend Beverly Brock, Director of the Canton Community Kitchen, says, “It is vitally important that we provide food stability for residents of Haywood County, but we also want to help citizens to help themselves by furthering their education and bettering their future.”

“We recognize that transportation is difficult for many of our students and wanted to provide an opportunity to help Haywood County residents in the Canton area obtain a GED,” says Patricia Smith, Coordinator of Adult Education. “In today’s workplace most jobs require a minimum of a high school equivalent. The GED is accepted by employers, community colleges, and many universities. Having a GED opens doors to higher paying jobs and additional educational opportunities.”

Individuals interested in joining the class, may contact the Canton Community Kitchen at 828-648-0014 or HCC’s Adult Education Department at 828-565-4182 or 828-627-4648.
