HCC’s Adult High School Students to Participate in Career & College Promise
The Adult Education Department at Haywood Community College is now offering Adult High School students the opportunity to participate in the college’s Career and College Promise program.
In January of 2012, HCC began offering the Career and College promise opportunity, replacing dual enrollment, Huskins, and learn and earn online initiatives, as the way for high school students to earn college credit tuition free. Through the Career and College Promise program, eligible Adult High School students will be offered the opportunity for seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities in order to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees that lead to college transfer or provide entry‐level job skills.
“In our Adult High School program, we serve a talented pool of students,” says Patricia Smith, Adult Education Coordinator, “who have the same dreams, educational goals, and aptitudes as any other high school student in the country. By partnering with Matt Heimburg, Coordinator of High School Programs, to develop a pathway for our students, the college has taken a leadership role to offer students the potential to earn up to 44 hours of college credit that will transfer to any public or participating independent college or university.”
Specific benefits of the Career and College Promise program are:
- Earning a credential, certificate or diploma in a technical career
- Earning credential that builds skills for an entry-level job
- Completing high-school and college-level credits at an accelerated rate
- Gaining support and preparation for college and university success
“We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our qualifying Adult High School students. It is a tremendous opportunity to be able to gain college credit without bearing the burden of normally associated tuition costs,” says Smith.
