HCC to Hold Earth Day Celebration

Haywood Community College will hold an Earth Day Celebration on Tuesday, April 22 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Creative Arts Building. The festivities will consist of a student Recycled Art Contest, exhibit booths, Mini Workshops, and much more.
The Recycled Art Contest will be held in the Mary Cornwell Gallery. Award winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Artwork will remain on display through April 26.
In the Creative Arts Building Courtyard, the following booths will be on exhibit: Audubon Society, Clean Water for NC, Clean Air Campaign, Haywood Beekeepers, HCC Technology Club, HCC Learning Support Services, and Bicycle Haywood NC.
Mini Workshops will be held in Room 7105. HCC Horticulture instructor George Thomas will present on Composting from 12 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. Eric Romaniszyn will present from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Water Quality Issues and Solutions.
Several other activities are scheduled throughout the day. HCC Director of the Regional Center for the Advancement of Children, Rita Wilson, will hold a children’s reading of two of Dr. Seuss’ Books, The Lorax and The Butter Battle Book from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Randy Siske will have a presentation on Recycling & Alternative Energy in Haywood County from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The 11th Hour documentary film will be shown from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sara Martin, HCC Biology instructor, will lead a trash clean up on campus and along Jones Cove Creek. At 3 p.m., HCC President Dr. Barbara Parker will lead a tree planting in the courtyard.
