HCM golf tourney raises $148,000
The generosity of the Haywood County community knows no bounds. Yet again, a new record has been set as a result of the 21st annual HCM Golf Tournament, Auction, and Banquet held July 22-23. Co-chairs of the golf tournament committee presented Lisa James, executive director of the ministry, with a check totaling $148,000 representing the tournament’s net proceeds in 2014, which is a 16 percent increase over the previous record mark set in 2013.
Since mid-April, the golf committee team had been working hard to ensure another successful tournament in 2014. No one on the committee has worked harder, and special thanks are due to raffle ticket sales chairman, Jack Duckworth, and the silent and live auction chairman, Nancy DeGraff, who led both of these events to a new sales record in 2014. Many thanks also go to the numerous businesses and individuals in Haywood County who donated over 200 items for the auction.
In addition to the committee, there were numerous volunteers and staff from HCM who provided assistance at the tournament and banquet. Their support was appreciated.
A total of 164 golfers participated in the two-day tournament at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa (WIGR), and Laurel Ridge Country Club (LRCC). Approximately 250 attended the auction and banquet at Laurel Ridge Country Club.
Haywood Christian Ministries wants to thank both clubs for hosting the golf events, and a special thanks to Laurel Ridge Country Club for donating the use of the club’s pavilion for the auction and banquet.
Fun was had by all on the golf courses, and many won prizes totaling $1745. Among the winners were
Women at Waynesville Inn & Golf Resort
— Low Gross – Nancy Duckworth and Donna Stamey Team Score = 62
— Low Net – Donna Holland and Judy Shirley Team Score = 49

Many thanks go out to the multitude of sponsors, players and donors who helped make this year’s success a reality. HCM gives a special thanks to its underwriter and platinum level sponsors, whose generosity more than covered the costs of the tournament.
All of the net proceeds directly benefit families in need in Haywood County, by allowing the ministry to provide them emergency assistance for such items as food, clothing, household items, heating fuel, eviction and utility cut-off prevention, emergency dental care, and prescriptions.
