HCWC to host Mountain Mauling tourney SaturdayExciting tournament wrestling continues in Haywood County
The Haywood County Wrestling Club will host its second annual wrestling tournament at Tuscola High School on Saturday, March 30.
The competition on the mat begins at 10 a.m. and the entry fee is $3 per person. There will be Easter surprises for the younger children/wrestlers, raffle baskets, concessions, T-shirt sales and baked goods.
Tourney officials expect grapplers from the central and western sections of North Carolina to compete the Haywood County Wrestling Club’s 30 members.
Recently, several club grapplers traveled to Hickory to compete at the St. Stephens Open Tournament on Saturday, March 16.
In the novice division, Warner Mull (80-85) was third. In the cadet division, Jaron Bradley (cadet/145) finished second, Thomas Hollingsworth (182) took third, while brothers Jeff Albritton (170) and John Albritton (220-285) finished fourth.
In the junior division, Zac Pottinger (145) and Justin Hogan (170) faced fierce competition but were unable to bring home medals, while Jeremiah Royer (160) finished third.
In the Top Dawg Tournament on March 22, Mull (80) had a strong showing in only his second tournament against more experienced wrestlers.
In the cadet division, Bradley won the 145-pound division, Hollingsworth (170) came in second, (John) Albritton (195) was third, Ashton Rhinehart (182) took fourth and Tanner Milner (132) came in fifth place.
In the junior division, Pottinger (152), Hogan (170) and Royer (170) competed against highly-ranked grapplers in the freestyle event.
