Headwaters Brewing Company, 130 Frazier St., in Waynesville, held its grand opening celebration Saturday, May 26.

The full-day fiesta attracted hundreds of visitors with live music, friends, hot dogs and tasty brews. The event was family-friendly.

Headwaters is Waynesville’s second microbrewery, and has just started pouring from its tasting room in the commercial area behind Waynesville’s Sagebrush Steakhouse.

Local brewer Kevin Sandefur was the recipient of the 2010 Haywood County Chamber of Commerce’s grant for promising new businesses, and he used the money to purchase his Brew-Magic system.

Keeping it local, Kevin teamed up with another local brewer, Heidi Dunkelberg, an experienced small business owner (co-owner of Clyde’s Coffee Cup Café) and an inventive and experienced brewer.

The duo has been perfecting the Brew-Magic system for several months and collaborating on several tasty brews, including Beaverdam Flattail Wheat, Strawberry Blonde, Angler's Amber, Stiff Paddle IPA and Skipping Stone Stout.
