NEW SYMRNA BEACH, FLORIDA/WAYNESVILLE — Helen Day Sommers of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at her home.
Helen was born in Waynesville and moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1968 from Canton. She was a former member and past president of Sacred Heart School PTO in New Smyrna Beach where she was in charge of the Tuesday lunch program and several fundraising projects that earned the school a new bus. She enjoyed crafts and artwork, especially chalk, pen and ink drawings, watercolor and acrylic painting, ceramics and gardening.
She is survived by three sons, Charles "Chad" Day of Houston, Texas, David Day, of Edgewater, Florida, and Damon Day, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; one daughter, Tina Vogel, of Merritt Island, Florida; one brother, Tom Pless, of South Carolina; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will hold a celebration of life service Wednesday, March 26, in New Smyrna Beach. Dudley Crematory of New Smyrna Beach performed the cremation.
The mother we love has not gone away; she walks beside each of us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; she is loved, she is missed, our mother so dear.
