CANTON — Hilda Owen Reece, 84, of Mulberry Lane, entered into the arms of the angels Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.
Hilda was born December 11, 1928 in Haywood County to the late Hershel Owen and the late Minnie Rogers Owen. She resided in Haywood County all of her life and was a graduate of Cecil Township High School located on Lake Logan Road. Hilda was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
During her lifetime, she dedicated her life’s work to caring for others and held various positions in the health care profession. She began her career as a cook, was a certified nursing assistant and also worked in social work. Hilda was indeed an Atlanta Braves fan, loved flowers and enjoyed working in her garden. She was a wonderful mother and shall be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry Reece; a daughter-in-law, Gail Reece; four brothers and one sister.
Surviving are her former husband, best friend and father of her children, Fred Eugene Reece of Canton; sons, David Reece and his wife, Pat Reece of Waynesville and Tommy Reece of Maggie Valley; her daughter, Vicky Hunter and Daniel Kim Wiggins of Canton; grandchildren, Terri Jo Moody, Chad Reece, Christy Reece, Stephanie Pruett, Paul Hunter, Hilary Hunter, Zachary Reece and Keisha Reece Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Blaine, Caleb, Cameron, Cooper, Gilbert and Silas; sisters, Joanne Morgan of Vinton, Virginia and Phyllis Quarlls of Chickamauga, Georgia; brothers, Roger Owen of Canton and Ray Owen of Canton; and several nieces and nephews
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will be in Sunburst Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church 1 hour prior to the funeral service.
