Hillery Sherman Gibson
WAYNESVILLE — Hillery Sherman Gibson, 90, of the Stamey Cove community, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at The Homestead.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late F.A. and Bernice Rogers Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Cook Gibson, who died Oct. 15, 2013; a son, Gordon Gibson; two sisters, Pauline Tolley and Margaret Wilson; and one brother, Ralph Gibson. He was a U.S. WWII Army veteran.
Hillery retired from Champion International after many years of service. He loved to fly fish for trout and enjoyed going on mission trips. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, the Rev. Ricky Gibson, and his wife, Marlene, and Terry “Bird” Gibson, and his wife, Diana; and a brother, T.M. Gibson, and his wife, Patty, all of Canton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Maple Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Carlisle and R.H. “Bud” Lance officiating. Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
