Historical road names matter, but so does process

A neighborhood move to change a road name in Maggie Valley has turned into a drawn-out political hot potato.

The petitioners have met the county’s requirements for the change to occur — more than 65 percent of the property owners along the road have signed a petition asking for Henry Dingus Way to be renamed Ridgeway Trail

The change hasn’t yet occurred, however. It appears objections from two property owners who are descendants of the individual for whom the road was named in the first place have found favor with political leaders in the county.
