Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather
CANTON — Homer Harrison Pless, 78, of the Cruso Community passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Silver Bluff Village.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Rex Lowe and Pearl Sharp Pless. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lenoir, Harry, Fred and Cody Pless; and a sister, Pearl Gaddis. He retired from American Enka/BASF as a machine operator with 27 years of service. Homer was a dedicated member of Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 45 years and taught Sunday school. He was a charter member of the Cruso Volunteer Fire Department. He was a man of few words, never saying a harsh word towards anyone. Homer will be remembered for his easy going personality and kindness and love he showed to others.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth “Wibbie” Reece Pless; a daughter, Theresa Pless Bates, and her husband, Ray, of Cruso; a sister, Sally Grogan, of Cruso; two grandchildren, Leann and Cyrena Bates; numerous nieces and nephews; and several children that were fostered by his daughter, whom he considered his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastors Jeff Heatherly and Jake Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
