Hometown Hardware presents holiday book-signing with Michael Beadle

Dec 18, 2013

CANTON — Local author and historian Michael Beadle will appear from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at Hometown Hardware to autograph copies of his new book on local history, "Canton," published by Arcadia Publishing.

Filled with more than 200 historic photographs of Canton and surrounding communities, "Canton" includes a history of the town itself, as well as a history of its paper mill, churches and schools, local businesses, and special events that helped shape this mountain town for over a century.

A touring writer-in-residence and award-winning poet living in Canton, Beadle previously co-authored the bicentennial retrospective "Haywood County: Portrait of a Mountain Community" and has published hundreds of newspaper articles on the history, arts, and culture of Haywood County.

Beadle worked on Canton for two years, researching and gathering old photographs and history from local residents, the Canton Historical Museum and Champion archives.

“We’re excited to be hosting this special event during the holidays,” said Hometown Hardware owner David Singleton. “Michael is a well-known author in Western North Carolina, and his new book on Canton is a great addition to local history and is filled with amazing old photographs, some never before published.”

Hometown Hardware is Canton’s only independent, locally owned and operated hardware store, located in Canton Plaza on Radio Hill.

Canton is on sale now at local bookstores and Canton businesses, including Hometown Hardware, and will be available for purchase at the book-signing. For more information, contact Hometown Hardware at 828-235-2120, or email info@hometown-hardware.com.
