Hospital plans community meetings

Mar 12, 2014

MedWest Haywood is hosting a series of community meetings throughout Haywood County starting next month.

The meetings will pick up on sessions held last spring to gather feedback from the community as well as share information on the MedWest Haywood Health System.

The meetings, led by MedWest Haywood President and CEO Janie Sinacore-Jaberg, are to find out what the health system is doing right, and what can be done better.

“I continue to be interested in knowing how our community thinks we are doing because this is their community hospital,” said Jaberg. “I want to know the good as well as the cases when maybe we didn’t meet expectations, because if we don’t know about it we can’t fix it. We are here for one reason only; to provide safe, excellent care to our community. And it’s important to me that I get out and hear what people have to say.”

Feedback was collected at the last round of community meetings. That feedback will be shared with participants of these meetings, as well as information on how the health system works to respond to community member’s concerns and suggestions.

There will also be some new information to share about the health system at this meeting.

“When we all met last spring, our boards were just beginning the process of searching for a capital partner,” said Jaberg. “Now, we are in the due diligence process with Duke LifePoint to become our new owner. It’s a very exciting time for our community hospital, and I will be bringing everyone up to speed not only about this process but about new services and enhancements within our health system here in Haywood.”

Although not required, community members are asked to RSVP one week before the event they wish to attend so that the health system can have enough materials on hand. Call 452-8883 or email katherine.crocker@haymed.org.

The meetings will be held:

  • Wednesday, April 2 from 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm in the auditorium of Haywood Community College
  • Tuesday, April 8 from Noon- 1:00 pm in the classrooms at the MedWest Haywood Health & Fitness Center
  • Thursday, May 1 from 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm at the Town Hall in Maggie Valley
  • Monday, May 5 from 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm at the Colonial Theater Annex in Canton
