Loving Husband, Brother, Friend to Many
WAYNESVILLE — Howard David Owen, 67, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Mission Hospital. He was born March 20, 1947, to the late Herman and Elfie Sutton Owen.
Howard had a love for working on car motors and carburetors. He enjoyed circle and drag racing, and retired from Champion International Paper.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Grasty Owen; brother, Claude Owen and wife, Dianne, of Clyde; sister-in-law, Janet Messer and husband, Richard, of Waynesville; brother-in-law, Harold Grasty and wife, Pat, of Lake Junaluska; four nieces, Angie Rhinehart, Kristie Holcombe, Lisa Messer and Courtney Messer; nephew, Wayne Grasty; several great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces; and special friends, Donnie and Dianne Bryson and Ray and Linda Clark.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Garrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hensley officiating.
Burial will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Darin Caldwell, Martin Long, Chris Massey, Bob Messer, Roger Free, Mark Allen, Allen Mehaffey and Wayne Grasty.
