CANTON — Kenneth Hugh “Hughby” Burnette, 70, of Dix Creek Road, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
Mr. Burnette was born April 8, 1942, in Haywood County, to the late Robert Woodrow Burnette and the late Thelma Chambers Burnette Mashburn. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and had been formerly employed at Unaugusta Furniture in Waynesville and was also employed with Mashburn Concrete Company as a concrete finisher and rock mason. Mr. Burnette was a dedicated member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was blessed with many friends and he loved and cherished his family deeply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Louann Burnette; a son, Kenny Ray Burnette; a sister, Joan Ross; a brother, Curtis Burnette; his step-father, Wilburn Mashburn and also a step-sister.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, JoAnn Mashburn Burnette; a daughter, Murlan Burnette Burchfield, and her husband, David Burchfield, of Canton; a son, Thomas Wayne Burnette, and his wife, Huong Nguyen, of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Amanda (Brian), April (Matt), Heather, Jason and Timmy; great-grandchildren, Colby, Sadie and Emeri; brothers, Max Burnette, and his wife, Doris Burnette, of Canton and Ralph “Pappy” Burnette, and his wife, Roxie Burnette, of Canton; a sister, Judy Williams, and her husband, Pastor Warren Williams, of Weaverville; two step-brothers and four step-sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Brindley officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church prior to the memorial service.
