Hurley case moves to superior court
Maggie Valley resident and business owner Steve Hurley remains in jail under $1 million secured bond while awaiting a ruling from a Haywood County Grand Jury.
During a March 12 appearance in District Court, Hurley waived his right to a probable cause hearing through his court appointed attorney Pam Smith. That means the case will move from the jurisdiction of district court and taken to superior court, said Assistant District Attorney Rachael Groffsky.
The 68-year-old was arrested in February on 44 felony child sex charges including statutory rape of a defendant under 16, indecent liberties with a child and crimes against nature. The case is still under investigation.
