FINE ART SHOW – Saturday, 10/19 – at Chamber's Apple Festival

First Baptist Church, Waynesville

Another festival is coming!  The professional artists and students of the Inspired Art Ministry, Inc. (Iam) cordially invite you to the 5th Annual Art Show/ Fund/Raiser which is included in the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce’s 25th annual Apple Harvest Festival, first floor of the MAC Building, First Baptist Church, Waynesville, NC.

Iam offers unique drawing and painting classes for adults and art classes for children. Beginners, intermediates, and advanced student levels are welcome. Professional artists attend to take advantage of painting with a group, and information provided.

Instructor, Char Avrunin, uses the Protique tmMethod of teaching, which combines academic instruction with student involvement. Each level has a flexible course outline of what will be covered each day of class. Works in progress are put up at the end of each class and the Protique tm begins. Rather than use the critique method, which many have found to lean toward the negative and can even get personal, the Protique tm method focuses on two things:  1) What’s working and why (using art terms they’ve learned in class) and 2) What could be improved and how (also using art voices). Each person’s ability and interests are primary and individual attention is provided. This creates an uplifting, exciting atmosphere that carries everyone along in their own personal art journey.

The children’s art classes, led by instructor, Scottie Harris, are a fun filled, educational experiences in the world of fine art for ages 5-14. Ms. Scottie stresses “seeing" what you are looking at and the shapes it contains.   Students use multi mediums for coloring their drawings - crayons, felt-tip pens, watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels and colored pencils.  They learn art techniques like shading, color mixing, warm and cool colors.   Some classes do individual drawing or paintings and at other times they do one class project.  Each child is given individual instruction, using the Protique tm method, what is working and what could be improved and how.  A safe, secure environment is provided where children can learn art techniques, create and be challenged while exploring their artistic potential. You will see the children’s creations on the stage at the Art Show/ Fundraiser.

Portions of purchases are tax-deductible and donations are put toward scholarships for children and adult for lessons or supplies. Iam tithes on all income to First Baptist Church for the privilege of using their space and for their support. Iam also offers an art library for students to check out books; field trips to galleries, museums and working artist’s studios and discounts at Mountain Home Collection and Great Smokies Creations (GSC) Gallery and Frame Shop.
