The Rev. Joslyn Ogden Schaefer

Grace Church in the Mountains will host a “Celebration of New Ministry” at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, when Bishop Jose McLaughlin will install the Rev. Joslyn Ogden Schaefer as 22nd rector in Grace Church’s 170-year history.

“This service emphasizes the role of the rector in empowering the ministry of all members,” said Schaefer.

Several members of the congregation will participate in the service by giving the new rector symbolic gifts as signs of her ministry among them. Some of these gifts will be oil for the ministry of anointing the sick and dying; a prayer book to symbolize her ministry of prayer; a stole symbolizing her role as pastor; and a Bible to symbolize her role as a preacher.

The Rev. Amana Robertson of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Charlotte will preach. Robertson is a leader in the Episcopal ministry to Latino members in the Charlotte area.

The Rev. Schaefer has come to Waynesville from the Charlotte area where she served as the associate rector at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She is married to Brian Schaefer, an attorney, and they have two children, Elias and Susanna.

The church is located at 394 N. Haywood St., Waynesville. For more information, call 456-6029.
