Irene S. Howell
Irene Shelton Howell, 85, of 168 Frady Lane passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at Silver Bluff Rehab Center.
A Haywood County native and former resident of Homestead, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon S. and Minnie Hendrix Shelton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Shelton and one sister, Christine Brown. She was a former employee of Wellco and Whitman’s Bakery and also worked at Publix Grocery Store in Homestead. Irene loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking and working.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Willard Howell; a daughter, Linda Russell and her husband, Michael of Waynesville; a son, Dale Howell and wife, Linda, also of Waynesville; two sisters, Jessie Mae Brown, of Clyde and Valerie Holloway of Waynesville; one brother, Kenneth Shelton and his wife, Margaret of Canton; four grandchildren, LuAnn Libertore and her husband, Chris, of Candler, Leigh Ann VanSchaick and her husband, John, of Hillsborough, Jeremiah Russell and his wife, Miranda, of Clyde, and Afton Murray and her husband, Nathan of Waynesville; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia and Liam Van Schaick, Eva and Emelia Libertore, Logan and Levi Russell and Halie Murray.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. John H. Swanger, III officiating. The family will be at Calvary Road Baptist Church Fellowship Hall after the service.
