CANTON — A Pisgah High School varsity cheerleader will get to continue her cheerleading career after she made the final cut of an intense two-day tryout.
Cheyenne Stewart, daughter of Theresa Spivey and Joseph Stewart, will be cheering on the Spartans at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, beginning this fall.
“I am so very proud of Cheyenne and I will miss her tremendously. She is not only an awesome cheerleader, but a very sweet and generous young lady. I am so glad to see her continue cheering at the college level,” said Pisgah Head Coach Tammy P. Ensley.
Stewart has been a cheerleader for nine years, including the last four at Pisgah High. As a senior, she  was captain of the Pisgah squad that won the state championship.
Stewart was also named to the first team of the all-region and all-state cheerleading squads by the North Carolina Cheerleading Coaches Association.
She has also been selected as a scholarship recipient of the North Carolina Cheerleading Coaches Association Scholarship Program.  She was one of eleven other girls from across the state that got the scholarship after an extensive application process.
Stewart was awarded the scholarship based on her achievements in academics, extracurricular activities and community involvement while at Pisgah High School.
At UNCG, Stewart plans to study Biology/Pre-Veterinarian.
