It's time to take a look back at 2013

Dec 26, 2013

As 2013 comes to a close, The Mountaineer will be looking back at the top stories of the year.

As in the past, we’ve asked staff members, our newspaper advisory board and our readers to help us determine which stories in 2013 were most significant.

We had a list of 17 stories that we whittled down to 10. Readers will be able to read a recap of the issue, as well as any updated information on the topics as we count down to the top story of the year, as well as the newsmaker of the year, both of which will appear in the Jan. 3, 2014 issue.

Readers will find that some of the top stories here tied into what was happening on the state and national level. Most of our top stories, however, are unique to Haywood County, just as our news coverage is tailored to bringing you timely information in your home community.

Enjoy the reflective moments of this past year, and take a few moments to look back on your experiences to see  if or how they were impacted by the top events.
