J. Creek Cloggers to perform in Maggie Valley

The J. Creek Cloggers announce they will be performing at the Stompin Grounds in Maggie Valley on May 3. They are currently performing most Saturday nights at Hillbilly Jackie’s located off the Leicester Highway, along with various festivals and benefits throughout North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia and other states.

The J. Creek Cloggers are a high-energy dance team based out of Haywood County who are keeping the mountain tradition alive of clogging, audience participation square dances and broom dances.  Members demonstrate different styles of dance including buck dancing, flat-footing and clogging.  Performing to traditional bluegrass music, the group makes their audiences clap and stomp along with them.

The exhibition team consists of 30-plus members ranging in age from 12 to 77.  The team prides themselves on having young people clogging, which in turn continues to keep this tradition alive.

“The whole team works as a family unit and we love educating the public regarding traditional clogging and the music behind it,” said Kim Ross-Woody, director. “We also encourage anyone wanting to learn or become part of our family, to please contact us.
