Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather

CANTON — Jack D. Fletcher, 84, of Canton, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.

Mr. Fletcher was born May 29, 1928, in Haywood County, to the late Dewey Fletcher and the late Loretta Drake Fletcher.  He was a member of the 1948 graduating class of Canton High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having enlisted following his high school graduation. He began his career in paper manufacturing in 1952, with Champion International and retired from the Pasadena, Texas, division in 1982 with 30 years of dedicated service.  Mr. Fletcher had made his home in Pasadena for 45 years, before returning to Canton in 1996. He was a member of North Canton Baptist Church.  Jack was truly dedicated to his family, which he cherished deeply and the times shared “going fishing” with his grandchildren will be memories treasured forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha (June) Trull Fletcher; his children, Donna Avant-Joslin, and husband, Chris Joslin, of Humble, Texas, Jack Dwayne Fletcher, and wife, Cheryl Fletcher, of Pasadena, Texas, and Michele Douglass, and husband, Carl Douglass, of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; grandchildren, Vanessa Simon, Cary Avant, Kevin Fletcher, Christy Deam, Ryan Fletcher, Christopher Douglass, Alaina Brown and Timothy Douglass; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Fletcher Scarboro, of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in celebration of Mr. Fletcher’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton. Pastor Mark Caldwell will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the memorial service.

The Fletcher family requests that memorials be made to one’s favorite charity which benefits a veteran or a veteran’s organization.
