Jackson Paper awards scholarships to three students

Jackson Paper Manufacturing Co. in Sylva has awarded $500 scholarships to three area high school seniors.

Scholarship recipients are Jacklyn Arrington and Natasha Hooper of Waynesville and Hunter Gass of Sylva.

Each of the recipients has a parent who is an employee at Jackson Paper.

Arrington is a graduating senior at Tuscola High School and the daughter of Ronnie and Tracy Arrington of Waynesville. This fall, she will enter Haywood Community College where she plans to study early childhood education.

Gass is a graduating senior at Smoky Mountain High School and the son of Donnie and Jan Gass of Sylva. He will attend Southwestern Community College where he plans to study criminal justice.

Hooper is a graduating senior at Tuscola High School and the daughter of Gary Young and Connie Hooper of Waynesville. She will attend Haywood Community College where she plans to enroll in the pre-nursing program.

Jackson Paper has been awarding college scholarships annually to the children of its employees since 1992. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average, letters of recommendation and school and community activities and honors.
