James B. Cothran

WAYNESVILLE — James Bunyan Cothran, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 after a long illness.
A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Berry Erskine and Daisy Thompson Cothran, and was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and later retired from the Federal Highway Administration with 31 years of service. James loved to vacation at the beach with his family and enjoyed reading about the Civil War and World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Cothran; a daughter, Jamie Cothran and fiancé, Michael Parmer, of Lincolnton; one grandchild, Jordan Allen; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his precious cats, Kit Kat and Kassie.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum with the Rev. Dr. Robert Prince officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
