Waynesville, NC - The Classic Wineseller, 20 Church Street, Waynesville, announces its live music schedule for August. The Wineseller’s kitchen is open Friday and Saturday evenings serving small plate fare beginning at 5:30pm. Music performances are from 7-10pm. There is a $10 per person minimum including food, drink or retail purchases.

On Friday, August 2, singer-songwriter and guitarist, James Hammel performs at 7pm. Hammel is a new face to the cabaret world with a long history of performing that is surpassed only by his 20 years at the top of the business world. Blending his own, often autobiographical originals, with fresh arrangements of standards and some twists on adult pop tunes, what often comes through are both the boyish levity at his hard-earned freedom from—as well as his homage to—his years at the top of the corporate ladder.

Traveling the world to board meetings with his rented guitar and staff paper waiting back in his hotel room, Hammel always dismissed what his guitar teacher, the late jazz great Sal Salvador, predicted: That he would one day emerge from his business destiny and turn back fully to music.

After the events of 9/11, which directly impacted Hammel’s company and life, he made good on Salvador’s prediction and produced his first full-length CD, Do It All Over Again. He is currently working on a second CD. Hammel performs in New York City at private parties and venues such as Metropolitan Room, Satalla, Kavehaz, PM, CBGBs gallery, and The Bitter End. He has also appeared on Houston’s Emmy-award-winning show, “The After Party”. Hammel now resides in western North Carolina.

Joe Cruz returns to the keyboard on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm, playing and singing the best of the Beatles, Elton John, and other pop favorites. Cruz grew up in a musical family in New York City, playing and singing in church from a young age. He became a regular on the New York club scene and has opened for Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, and Average White Band. Cruz resides in Haywood County with his wife, Tracey, and their daughters.
