MAGGIE VALLEY —  James Sherwood Russell, 70, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at MedWest-Haywood.

James was a native of Granville County. He had resided in Apex, before moving to Haywood County in 2004.   He was the son of the late Sidney and Gladys Faulkner Russell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Russell and a sister, Doris Rau.  James was employed as a mail clerk at Durham Community College and the Research Park.  He loved horses, traveling and being a foster parent.  James was a member of First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley.
