Faithful , Compassionate, Giving

CANTON — Janis Ann Jacobs Pressley, 62, of Sunset Drive, went to be with her heavenly father Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.

Janis was born Feb. 4, 1952, in Blackshear, Georgia, to the late Homer Eldon Jacobs and the late Viola Drawdy Jacobs.  She had made her home in Haywood County for the past 33 years.  Janis was employed as a teaching assistant with the Haywood County School System where she gave her love, care and guidance to the special needs students at Bethel Elementary School.

She was a faithful and active member of New Covenant Church where she was an integral part of the SisterShare Bible Study Group. She was also a Dave Ramsey certified financial advisor sharing her knowledge with those who were in need of solving their problems of financial debt.  Janis held a deep concern for others and proudly served on the board of directors for the Community Kitchen in Canton.

Her beautiful flowers and her special outdoor garden areas were admired by everyone and were a haven of peace and solace for her family and also those who visited her home.

She had a true passion for nature and wildlife and dedicated many hours to feeding the beloved birds that visited her peaceful gardens.  Janis will be lovingly remembered for her strong personal faith, her feistiness, her compassionate giving heart and her deep love and commitment to her family.  Her faith in God was the foundation of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Freddie Jacobs, Davie Jacobs and Johnny Jacobs; and her former husband and father of her children, Robert “Bob” Hunnicutt.

Surviving are her loving husband, Reid Pressley, of Canton; her daughter, Rachel Hunnicutt Jones and husband, C. J., of Asheville; her son, Justin Hunnicutt, of Asheville; a sister, Karen Dixon and husband, Steve, of Blackshear, Georgia; brothers, Billy “Bimbo” Jacobs and wife, Debra, of Blackshear, Georgia, and Kenny Jacobs and wife, Deb, of Conover; an uncle, Frank Jacobs and wife, Marie, of Georgia; several nieces and nephews, and also her special little dog, Maddie.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at New Covenant Church in Clyde. The Rev. Nick Honerkamp will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service of celebration.
