Jarrett to speak at Lenten services April 3
The Rev. Esta Jarrett, pastor of the Canton Presbyterian Church, will be the guest speaker at the Canton Community Lenten Service scheduled for noon, Thursday, April 3, at First United Methodist Church of Canton.
Jarrett describes herself as a "cradle Presbyterian," born and reared in Newport News, Virginia, but with deep roots in Western North Carolina, her father's family has lived in Madison County for 200 years. Before hearing the call to ministry, she worked as an archaeologist and as a business writer in Richmond, Virginia. She then earned a Master of Divinity in Christian education, and theology and ethics at Union Presbyterian Seminary, also in Richmond. Her thesis was on ways the church can help people suffering from depression.
She has been the pastor at Canton Presbyterian Church for 2 and 1/2 years.
“I feel blessed to have found a loving community full of hope, promise and faith in Canton," said Jarrett.
The 30-minute service will be followed by a lunch in the church's fellowship hall. All are invited.
