Jasper J. Callahan
GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA — Jasper June Callahan, 70, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. The Rev. Dr. Terry Walton will officiate.
Jasper was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Waynesville, the son of the late Lee Roy Callahan and Annie (Jones) Callahan. Jasper grew up in Waynesville, graduated from Waynesville Township High School and attended Montreat Anderson College. He served in the U.S. Army. After 30 years in sales in the grocery industry he retired but later worked for Lowes where he again retired in September 2013.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather who led by example and was always there when needed.
Jasper is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha (Jones) Callahan, of Gainesville; daughters, Jessica Callahan Houck (Trevor), of Lawrenceville; Kelly Callahan Chase (Jamie), of Gainesville; grandchildren, Griffin, Owen, Kendyl and Hayden; sisters, Edna Gibson, of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Marjorie Wells, of Columbia, South Carolina; brother, Roy Lewis (Bo) Callahan, of Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials may be made to Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, GA 30506.
His passing leaves a void that is deeply felt by his family and friends.
