JCPC issues Request for Proposals for FY 2017-18

The Haywood County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is seeking proposals to provide services to Juvenile Court-involved youth in Haywood County.

The JCPC anticipates funds from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Juvenile Justice in the amount of $145,992. Qualified programs will serve court-involved and at-risk youth for the state fiscal year 2017-18, beginning on July 1.

Local public agencies, 501c3 nonprofit corporations and local housing authorities are invited to submit applications for programs that address the following elements:

— The services provided meet one or more of the following criteria: interpersonal skills, experiential skills, restitution and community service, structured day programming, temporary shelter care or mediation.

— The program targets one or more of the following known risk factors for juvenile delinquency or repeat delinquency: negative peer associations, parental supervision skills, school behavior problems, history of assaultive behavior, prior referrals to Juvenile Court, housing insecurity, substance abuse or need for further assessment.

— The program addresses one or more of the following concerns as reported in a Needs Assessment for adjudicated youth: associations with delinquent peers; substance abuse; history of family criminality; family discord and violence; housing insecurity; serious school behavior problems.

The deadline for applications is 3 p.m. Friday, March 31. All new applicants must attend a mandatory grant writing workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20, at the Haywood County Justice Center, 285 N. Main St., Suite 2200, Waynesville.
