CANTON — Jennie Chambers Burnette, 88, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Weston and Sally Blaylock Chambers.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George Fulton Burnett, who died in 2008; six brothers, Baxter, Burlin, Edwin, Marshall, George and Lush Chambers; and a sister, Evelyn Almeta McDuffie.  Jennie committed her life to Jesus at an early age and lived her life as an example of her faith and trust in Christ.  She never grew tired of hearing the gospel message and read her Bible daily.  She was an animal lover, especially dogs, cats, and birds, and rescued numerous animals over the years. She was a great historian and her family never grew tired of her recalling stories and memories of her childhood. Jennie never met a stranger and she stayed informed on current affairs and could discuss religion and politics with anyone. She was a writer of poetry and short stories, loved playing her harmonica and guitar and singing Christian harmony. She was an advocate for the use of “good common sense.”  As the first daughter after six older brothers, she was forever a “tomboy” and loved being outdoors.

She is survived by a daughter, Dana B. Reid, and her husband, Mike, of Bethel; two sons, Louie Burnette, and his wife, Peggy, of Killian, Alabama, and Tony Burnett,e and his wife, Jennifer, of Shelby; six grandchildren, Carla Stamey Moore, Cody Reid, Scott Moore, Candi Nelson and Caroline and Harrison Burnette; a great-grandson, Jacob Moore; two special nieces, Rhonda Chambers and Lisa Nickell; and her faithful dog “Jack.”

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Riverside Baptist Church with her son, the Rev. Tony Burnette, and the Rev. Dr. Roy Kilby officiating.  Burial will follow in The Garden Mausoleum at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior at the church.
