GRAFTON, WEST VIRGINIA — Mr. Jesse Walter Adams, 94, of Grafton, West Virginia, formerly of Waynesville, passed away Jan. 10, 2014 at his home.
Jesse was born in Cherokee County to the late Walter and Elizabeth Mathis Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carrie Belle Buchanan Adams; a daughter Shirley Kittle; a grandchild; and was the last of 11 children.
Jesse loved his family dearly, and listening to preaching and gospel music became his favorite way to pass the time. He was a member of Grafton Baptist Church and a former member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. Jesse was a machinist and never had a job that he was afraid to tackle and conquer. He enjoyed fishing and garage sales became a passion.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Litzinger Adams; daughters, Frances Bishop and her husband, David, Judy Karsten; son-in-law, Ronnie Kittle; six step-children; eight grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 19 step-great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Revs. Eddie Deitz, Don Harward and Brian Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Sylva.
