In Loving Memory
CANTON — Doris Joan Hanson Erickson, 81, of Cresent Loop, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013.
Mrs. Erickson was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Wilmington, Delaware and was the daughter of the late James Walter Hanson and the late Doris Turner Hanson Andren.
She had resided in the Vineland and Millville area of New Jersey before making her home in Canton for the past 10 years. Mrs. Erickson retired from Wheaton Glass Company in New Jersey and had also retired from Vineland Syrup Company. She had been a dedicated member of Millville Church of the Nazarene where she was a first and second grade Sunday School class teacher for 20 years and had also served in many other positions in the church.
Upon moving to Canton, she transferred her church membership to the Lakeview Church of the Nazarene and became active in the nursing home ministry with her dear friends, Buelah Rathbone and Margaret Anderson. She also resumed her beloved teaching of the first and second grade Sunday School Class at the church.
Joan will forever be remembered for her faith, her dedication to her church, touching the lives of so many children throughout the years , her beautiful smile and her blessed love for all of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Gunnar Andren; two children, Mary Ann Holton and Timothy Holton; a sister, Mary Jane Berry.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Arthur “Pete” Erickson of Canton; a daughter, Jeanie Burchfield and her husband, Herb Burchfield of Canton; grandchildren, Joseph Whilden of New Jersey and Michael Burchfield and his wife, Tonya Burchfield of Canton; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jacob Burchfield; a brother, James Hanson and his wife, Jan Hanson of Millville, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the chapel of Garrett- Hillcrest Mausoleum with entombment following. Pastor Timothy Pullin will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the mausoleum chapel one hour prior to the funeral service.
