CANTON – Shirley Joan Queen Kent, 76, passed away Wednesday Nov. 14, 2012, at John F. Keever Solace Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Bessie Dills Queen.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Hipps, and her husband, E. L. Hipps.

She was a charter member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as church clerk and director of the WMU program for many years.  She retired from Mission Hospital as a Registered Nurse, with 26 years of service in the Neurosciences Unit.

She is survived by a son, Gregory Kent and his wife, Nancy, of Madera, California; a brother, Dwayne Queen, and his wife, Sue Ellen, of Milton, Florida; two granddaughters, Elizabeth ...
