Joe Ann Lumley
WHITEHOUSE, OHIO — Joe Ann Lumley, 91, of Whitehouse, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born July 25, 1922, in Colquitt, Georgia, to L. Robert and Maggie (Marchant) Nix.
Joe Ann spent most of her life in Macon, Georgia, where she married Harold Lumley and started their family. She was among the first civilian women to be employed at Warner-Robbins Air Force Base, which enabled them to purchase their first home. Harold and Joe Ann were very active in the United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. They were leaders in the Lay Witness Movement and traveled internationally for the church with the Lay Renewal efforts. Joe Ann had a loving heart and never met a stranger. She was the glue that held the family ties together and fostered a love that is several generations rich.
Joe Ann is survived by her children, Harold (Beverly) Lumley and Cheryl (Chris) Klueber; grandchildren, Jonathan (Kelli), Cotter (Becky), Chris (Danielle), Rachel, Stephen (Sara), Rebekah, Miriam, Sam and Joanna; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Alchia Bowers, Marvin Nix, Frank Nix, Evelyn Nix and Ruth Smitha.
Friends and family will gather at the Waterville United Methodist Church, 102 N. Fifth St., Waterville, Ohio, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10.
