City Lights Bookstore will host a signing for Joe Cobb Crawford’s new book on Friday, July 12th at 6:30 p.m. Southern Folk Author Joe Cobb Crawford writes mountain stories from yesteryear. The Poetry Company: Memoirs of a Chicken Catcher and When The Chickens Come Home To Roost were both set in Southern Appalachian Mountains. His third book, Mountain Shadow Memories, is a collection of 'Almost True' tales passed down by mountain friends and relatives. Mountain legends are given voice, and colorfully brought to life in Joe's stories. Twelve story paintings vividly captured by local Folk Artist Ken Woodall evoke memories of the lost mountain past.
Joe's book has already received four nominations for the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance's Okra Pick award, an award recognizing distinguished southern writing. Recently, the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit Committee in New York City's Greenwich Village ranked art by the book's illustrator third from a crowd of over one hundred artists participating in their annual Memorial Day art exhibit. Come by, meet the the author and the artist, and recall mountain life of the past.
