Johnathan Craig Harvey
CULLOWHEE — Johnathan Craig Harvey, 24, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, at his home in Cullowhee.
Johnathan was the son of Jimmy D. Harvey of Clyde and Suzanne Hooper of Waynesville, and grandson of Dayton and Pauline Harvey, of Clyde. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Clarence Hooper and his step-grandmother Bessie A. Hooper.
He is survived by his beloved son Colton Hunter Harvey, his wife Chelsea Cagle Harvey and her son Carter; his sister Susan Nicole Harvey, all of Waynesville, his brothers, J. Chris Harvey (Barbara) of Greenville, South Carolina, Tommy Hooper of Waynesville; his aunts Debi Harvey Hall (Rick) of Clyde and Susie Harvey Sorrells (Larry), and their son Eric, of Bethel, Carolyn Counts (Jimmy) of Waynesville; uncle Clarence Hooper (Elda) of Orlando, Florida; his niece and nephew Chloe and Evan Harvey, of Greenville, South Carolina,; his stepmother Buffy Queen, of Waynesville; stepsister, Carly Queen, of Atlanta; and several other nephews, nieces and cousins.
Many dear friends mourn his passing, including Corinne Minor, Gina and Mark Strugnell and Russell Hill. Johnathan was a graduate of Tuscola High School, joined the Navy after graduation and was trained as a corpsman. He was stationed in Sigonella, Sicily during his tour of duty for three years where he won the Outstanding Corpsman award during his first year.
Stateside after that, he attended Haywood Community College and earned his CNA certificate and continued to work in the health care field for a year. Most recently he was an employee of Harrah's Cherokee Casino where he was a table games dealer. Johnathan was a kind and loving father, son, brother and friend.
He will be forever missed by those who loved him, as he was taken too soon and left too young. Memorial contributions may be made to K.A.R.E. (Kids Advocacy Resource Effort), PO Box 1392, Waynesville, NC 28786, the Haywood county agency that helps abused children and their families.
Memorial Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at Sulphur Springs Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church.
