True Mountain Man

MAGGIE VALLEY — Johnny Mack Miller, 63, of Straight-Up Road, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Sam and Katie Rathbone Miller and was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Moody Miller, who died in 2010, and one sister, Vena Mae Carver. Johnny was a heavy equipment operator and was of the Baptist faith.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Ammons, of Maggie Valley, and Lori Moody, of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sisters, Myrtle Sutton, of Maggie Valley and Geneva Munn, of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Willie Miller, of Maggie Valley and Sammy Miller, of Georgia; two granddaughters, Noelle Henson and Megan Trull; and two great-grandchildren, Izzy and Ellie Henson.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to services at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
