CANTON — Jorene Maney West, 90, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Brian Center of Waynesville.
A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Alma Nations Maney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Reeves West, who died Dec. 30, 2003; two sons, Dale and Darrell West; and a sister, Vetris Bolin. She was a sales representative with Avon for 17 years and was a founding member of Mountain View Church of God. Jorene enjoyed trips to the farmers market to gather her weekly supplies of fresh produce and flowers. She had a special “knack” for connecting with people and persuading them to volunteer and help with special church projects. She will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy Westphal, of Canton; a son, Eric West, of Canton; a sister, Willene Caldwell, of Waynesville; a brother, Bill Maney Jr., of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Jared West, of Woodstock, Georgia, Joshua Westphal (Lissa), of Ennis, Texas, Nathan Westphal (Bethney Laferrara), of Lake Dallas, Texas, Kira Hall (Caleb), of Hubert, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Aaron, and Hannah Hall and Layla, and Beverly Westphal; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Mountain View Church of God with pastor Herman Toney, retired, and pastor Robert Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
