Joyce Beck Clark
MURPHY — Joyce Beck Clark, 69, of the Tomotla Community passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Murphy Medical Center. She was born on a small dairy farm in the Crabtree Community of Haywood County. She was a 1962 graduate of Clyde High School where she was a varsity basketball player. She moved to Murphy in 1969 with her husband Lloyd. She was a member of Tomotla Baptist Church and served as a children’s Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed every minute with her family. She was also a homemaker for her own family as well as being a caregiver to many of the children in the community.
Joyce was the daughter of the late Ephraim Clingman and Mary Lee Parker Beck. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, May Burr Beck, Anna Lou James, Rena Mehaffey and Georgia Gillett, and a brother, E.C. Beck, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 49.5 years, Lloyd Clark; two sons, Keith Clark and wife Jill of Asheville and Doug Clark and wife Kathleen of Weaverville; a brother, Ernest Beck and wife Kathy of the White Oak Community; and four grandchildren, Makenna, Shelby, Celia and Sean Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home in Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 in the Tomotla Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home prior to the services.
