SYLVA — Joyce W. Turner, 81, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Sylva.

Joyce was born May 15, 1931, in Nashville to Nora and Maynard Wheeler.  She was a mother and homemaker who dedicate her life to her family.  She was creative and artistic; playing piano, painting, calligraphy and decoupage.  She sang in and accompanied many church choirs.  She was also the Southern Baptist Association Library Director in Tennessee, Michigan and Florida, starting libraries in many churches all over those states. Later in life she graduated from Barnum & Bailey Clown College in Florida and Candy the Clown was born.  Candy played in many churches and other functions for her husband’s business.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Nora and Maynard; and her twin brothers, Donnie and Ronnie.  She is survived by her sister, Gloria, her husband of 60 years C.B. Turner, her daughter Kay and son Kerry, and grandchildren Mia and Casey.

Joyce and C.B. joined with five other families to found Boca Glades Baptist Church, and for its first years it met in their home, using the pool as the baptismal.  In lieu of flowers, Joyce would be pleased to see a memorial donation made to the church.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Andrew Dolge of MedWest-Harris Hospice and The Hermitage Memory Care for their caring and support in Joyce’s final days.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Babione Funeral Home in Boca Raton, Florida.

A funeral service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Boca Glades Baptist Church as the evening service, with Pastor Truman Herring officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Nashville, Tennessee.
