MAGGIE VALLEY — Kenneth “Ken” Schaefer, 80, of Sky Drive, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at MedWest-Haywood.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he had resided in Haywood County for the past 13 years.  He was the son of the late Frederick and Gertrude Dremann Schaefer and was also preceded in death by one brother, Don Schaefer.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and former owner of Schaefer Construction Company and worked as a project manager for Stratton Construction Company.  Kenneth drew the plans and oversaw the reconstruction of Barberville Baptist Church.  He was also commodore of the Lake County Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio, and the property owners association president of Smokey Falls Development.  Kenneth enjoyed being active and traveling with ...
