Kids events at WNC EcoFest

Apr 17, 2013

There will be no shortage of things for the youngest crowd to do at WNC EcoFest Saturday, May 4. The festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held on the Haywood Community College Campus.

Denise Teague, who learned about all the fun things kids love to do when she operated Fun Things, Etc. in Waynesville, is heading up the children's activities.

"There will be cornhole boards for kids and adults, hula hoops, jump ropes, Kid K'Nex, sidewalk chalk, block play and a trivia wheel," Teague said.

She is working with Vi Keenan of Macaroni Kid in Waynesville, a free, green, online resource for parents in Haywood, Jackson and Swain Counties highlighting local family events and businesses.

Keenan will be showing kids how to make a macaroni bracelet and a bird feeder using Cheerios. There will also be a sensory box where children can try to identify the objects before they pull them out of the rice. More information is available at WaynesvilleMacaroniKid.

Evelyn Chambers with FunShine Faces will be painting faces with a focus on eco-friendly themes. Some of her work can been seen on her Facebook page at funshinefaces.
The events are part of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce's newest festival that celebrates that which takes attendees back to their roots. Discover tips on canning, preserving food, raising chickens, bees or a garden. There will be live entertainment, vendor booths and information tables where festival goers can learn about alternative energy, green building and a variety of health and wellness ideas.
