The Haywood County Board of Education appointed two new assistant principals during its monthly meeting Monday night.

Starting in the fall, Danna Knight will be joining Clyde Elementary School as assistant principal and Kiffin Queen will be the new assistant principal at Waynesville Middle School.

Queen will be leaving his position as lead teacher at Junaluska Elementary School, and Knight was previously an instructional coach for Buncombe County Schools.

Clint Conner, current principal at Clyde Elementary, said he was looking forward to working with Knight because she has always shown great passion for children and expressed a great loyalty to Haywood County schools.

“When I asked her, ‘how loyal are you to Haywood County schools and Clyde?’ Ms. Knight stood up … and said ‘I don’t care what you want me to do as long as it’s in the best interest of the kids,’” Conner said.

“I promise I will work hard for my second home at Clyde Elementary,” Knight told the school board.

Waynesville Middle School Principal Trevor Putnam introduced Queen as his assistant, adding that he chose Queen because he was hard working, intelligent and has a love for children.

“I promise to do what’s best for the school and more importantly, what’s best for the students,” Queen said.
