The Waynesville Knights of Columbus Council #15085 and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church held the sixth annual charity golf tournament June 22 at Lake Junaluska Golf Course. The event netted more than $10,000, which the Knights will distribute during the year to local charities including The Open Door, The Community Kitchen, The Arc of Haywood County and others.

Sixty-six golfers teed it up for the benefit of the tournament on a sunny summer day. The team of Rick Constance, Ashley Thompson, Erin Campbell and Jan Campbell won first place. Second place was won by Father Larry LoMonaco, pastor of St. John’s, Chris Cross, Vince Granese and Greg McCoy. Third place went to the team of Jed Lambert, Craig Cable, Justin Curry and Harold Chalmers.

In conjunction with the tournament, the Knights sold drawing tickets with prizes of a $200 Visa gift card, a carved wooden bear by Jake Marzullo, a framed landscape by Waynesville artist T. Pennington, a one-half day fly fishing trip with Rex Wilson and dinner for two at the Old Stone Inn. The drawing winners were Ann Simmons, Bernice Smathers, Stan Finn, Dorothy Soranno and Sister Mary Ruth.

Waynesville Automotive provided a new Buick as a prize for a hole in one, although no one won that prize. The Knights are grateful to all the local business sponsors and volunteers from the Catholic Women's Circle for their help and participation.

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic charitable society that promotes charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
