GREENEVILLE, Tennessee — The final seven seconds were ticking away, the Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team had the ball in the hands of senior RJ McClure, who had scored 14 points, and the South Atlantic Conference game at Tusculum wrapped up.
McClure, who was standing on 999 career points, had a clear path to the basket but L-R Head Coach John Lentz waved him back.
No milestone on the road. Instead, McClure will get his 1,000th point Wednesday night at home against Coker on Senior Night.
The Bears improved to 14-10, 13-7 in the SAC after beating beat Tusculum (3-23, 2-18), 67-60, Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.
Tusculum sophomore Rory McClure, a former Pisgah standout, had four points.
